Trustees, Cromwell Museum

Overview
The Cromwell Museum is dedicated to telling the story and times of Oliver Cromwell ‘warts and all’, one of the iconic figures in British history. Located in the stunning original Huntingdon Grammar School, where the likes of Oliver Cromwell and Samuel Pepys were educated, this is a pivotal time to be joining the our board, as we being our biggest project to date.
The museum is on an exciting journey: there has been an increase in visitor numbers in recent times, a new refurbishment and a successful marketing campaign. We are now looking to acquire a new building to expand our facilities, enabling us to showcase our collection much more effectively, with dedicated café and education spaces, and become a larger visitor destination in the heart of Cromwell country.
In this context, the museum is looking for new trustees to join the board who can help and advise on the strategy and direction of the museum and its upcoming expansion. The board currently consists of nine trustees including a Vice-Chair and Chair, and we have four members coming to the end of their maximum terms in the coming years. Therefore, the museum is currently seeking high calibre individuals who have experience and skills in project management, finance, education, and experience in a museum or heritage organisation.
Board members will bring thoughtful contribution to meetings, be principled, and enthusiastic about telling the history of Oliver Cromwell and the 17th century. A willingness to be challenging but constructive and a strong strategic focus are essential for these roles.
The board meets once every 8 weeks.
