The University of Liverpool seeks an exceptional Head of Philanthropy, a newly created role within the Development & Alumni Relations Team (DART). It is one of several key new positions we will be recruiting through an exciting period of growth in the months and years ahead, leading up to our 150th Anniversary in 2031.
The University of Liverpool is the original ‘red brick’, founded in 1881 thanks to philanthropy, and has been transforming lives through an ever-evolving portfolio of academic programmes, an ongoing commitment to widening participation in higher education and an impressive range of internationally acclaimed, life-changing research.
As Head of Philanthropy, you will work closely with world-leading experts and senior leaders across the University to support their important work through philanthropic activity. You will additionally inspire a growing team of Development Managers to forge impactful philanthropic relationships and reach ambitious fundraising goals.
You will sit at the heart of our Development & Alumni Relations Team, a team that is bursting with potential to do great things. Reporting into the Associate Director of Development, you will be part of the Development leadership team and will lead on major, individual and legacy giving efforts whilst managing a personal portfolio of donors with the capacity to give at the £1m+ level. You will be responsible for forging impactful philanthropic relationships, inspiring your team to reach ambitious fundraising goals, and establishing strong working relationships with senior stakeholders, academics and volunteers.
This is a rare opportunity for an outstanding major gifts fundraiser to enable a step-change in income generation in a leading Russell Group institution with tremendous links and connections to develop. Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tim Jones, took up his position in January 2023 – creating new opportunities for donor engagement – and we are immersed in planning for our anniversary campaign; this is an exciting moment to join the University of Liverpool with enormous fundraising potential.
Equal Opportunity

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion are at the heart of all we do. Working together, as a community, we will create an even more inclusive culture, which aims to maximise the potential of our staff and students.
