Kingston University is seeking to appoint four individuals to join its Board of Governors. The University is an exciting and progressive university based in South West London.  Through its innovative and unique Town House Strategy, it leads the sector in groundbreaking work to equip graduates with the skills and attributes most valued by global employers.  With four campuses across the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, the University boasts a range of state-of-the-art facilities that allow its 20,000 students to build their knowledge and skills.

The University is also widely acclaimed for its work boosting social mobility.  Over half of Kingston’s students identify as Black and minority ethnic and the University’s student population is further diversified by gender, class, sexual orientation, disability, faith and age – almost 50 per cent are mature students.

The University is governed by a Board of Governors which has overall responsibility for overseeing the direction and performance of the institution.   The Board comprises a range of high calibre individuals bringing a combination of lay and academic backgrounds.

At this time we seek to recruit Governors who have a track record of strategic influence in accountancy, finance, the creative industries and higher education.  The appointed Governors will join either the Audit and Risk Committee, or the Academic Governance Committee.

Governors will bring thoughtful and mature contribution to board meetings, be principled yet innovative.   A willingness to be challenging but constructive and a strong strategic focus are essential for these roles. Previous experience as a Non-Executive Director is useful but by no means essential.

The role of Governor is likely to require a time commitment of around 10 to 12 days per annum.

All roles are unremunerated, although reasonable expenses will be covered.
