Dean of School of Dentistry/Chair, University of Liverpool


The School of Dentistry is a constituent part of the Institute of Life Course and Medical Sciences in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at University of Liverpool, conducting world-leading research which benefits the local, national and global health economy.  It is consistently regarded by surveys and external indices as one of the strongest Dentistry schools in the UK.

We are now looking for a new Dean of the School of Dentistry.

Currently there are a number of exciting initiatives within the dental area at Liverpool, which the new Dean will lead on. These include the development of a new Dental Teaching Hospital and outreach dental clinics in partnership with our NHS partners, and the expansion of home and overseas student numbers.

Working closely with three Vice Deans in the areas of Learning and Scholarship, Student Experience, and Research and Postgraduate Studies, you will have experience in a senior academic leadership / management role related to dental education.  You will have evidence of successfully working with the NHS at a senior level.  You will also have research experience with a track record of publications and a demonstrable experience in strategic and operational management and planning.

You will be expected to play a key role in the Faculty’s structure and the delivery of the Academic Business Plan and associated performance indicators for the Faculty. The Dean of School will work in partnership with the School Manager and Executive Dean to provide leadership and management at a business delivery level within the Institute, in support of the University’s Strategic Plan and key ambitions. In order to deliver this, the Dean of School will take responsibility for strategic change within the School.

You will be GDC (registered or registered) with FDS RCS (or equivalent) on the specialist register and evidence of higher postgraduate research.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the School of Dentistry and to raise the profile of the School and discipline within and outside the Institute, University, and nationally.

The role Dean of School of Dentistry will be fixed term until 31st December 2029 initially and will be offered in combination with a permanent post at Professorial level.
