Are you ready to push boundaries and make a difference? At Plymouth Marjon University we are excited to announce the newly created position of Chief Digital, Data & Technology Officer.

Under the leadership of our new Vice-Chancellor, Professor Claire Taylor, we will shortly be embarking upon the development of our new strategy ‘Marjon 2030’. Central to the strategy will be a commitment to being a people centred, digitally enabled, connected community and to support this ambition the University is creating a new central service to bring together Digital, Data and Technology in a single Professional Service. The Chief Digital, Data & Technology Officer will have leadership and management responsibility for the new DDaT Service.

You will have a strong understanding of digital transformation and recognise the central importance of people, culture, business, processes and technology in the transformation process. You will have the passion and energy to create, lead and manage a high performing Service which needs to be delivering at all times while ensuring they are innovating and keeping pace with the evolution of technologies, data and digital approaches in an educational context. You will also have the ability to communicate the vision, strategy and approach for digital transformation to a wide range of stakeholders across the university.

You will have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the potential to harness and use digital technologies, data and digital approaches to enhance student education and research, with experience of successfully leading the delivery of large, complex projects in an academic environment. You will understand, and be able to manage, the potential pitfalls of using digital technology, and you will ensure equitable access for all.

You will have experience of viewing technology from the users’ perspective, and will be able to lead, manage, mentor and support staff working in very user-facing roles, data and reporting roles and technology roles. You will lead and enhance a team able to create transformative enterprise-wide improvements in the quality, efficiency and organisational effectiveness of DDaT systems, equipment and services. You will have direct responsibility for effectively managing the DDaT Service’s business plan and budget. The role will be a key and influential member of the University Leadership Group and will also deputise for the Chief Operating Officer and other key officers as applicable.

You will have strong communication and influencing skills with a track record of managing high-level internal and external stakeholder relationships at Executive Leadership, Senior Management and Board level. You will be a confident decision-maker, able to be effective and decisive in what can be a challenging environment. You will have excellent leadership skills with ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve goals. You will have the ability to support project management activities and work within established processes. You will have experience of influencing and negotiating with colleagues in challenging situations.
