Professor and Head of the School of Education, University of Hull

The University of Hull is seeking to appoint a Professor and  Head of the School of Education who will take up the post as soon as possible. The role of Head of School provides academic leadership for students and colleagues across the academic disciplines of the school.   This is an excellent opportunity to join an established area within the Faculty and work in a collegiate environment. The successful candidate will have experience of leadership and need to meet the threshold to be appointed at Professorial-level. The Head of School is also a member of the Faculty Leadership Team and works with other Heads of Departments and Schools within the Faculty alongside the Faculty Academic Manager and Associate Deans.

The Faculty of Arts, Cultures, and Education was formed in 2017 to consolidate the University of Hull’s expertise and experience in delivering high-quality education and research across the main disciplines of the Faculty. Encompassing: the School of the Arts; the Department of Criminology; the Department of Languages and Philosophy; the School of Education; the Department of English and American Studies; and the Department of History. The Faculty has strong regional, national, and international links and relationships with partner organisations that enhance the work of the Faculty. The Faculty has benefited from the legacy of the 2017 City of Culture celebrations and is well placed to continue developing this work which spans across the various academic areas. With the appointment of a new Dean in July 2019, the Faculty has embarked upon an ambitious programme of work to update and transform its educational portfolio. Education is one of the largest academic units in the Faculty, comprising the disciplinary areas of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) and Education Studies. Alongside developing its academic portfolio, the School of Education has launched an ambitious research strategy rooted in the newly-established Centre for Educational Participation and Research (CEPaR).
