Head of School of Computer Science and Mathematics, Keele University

Keele University has international reach, a reputation for world-class research, high quality research-led education and an outstanding student experience, reflected in a Gold award in the TEF.  Keele has consistently ranked within the top three universities in England for overall student satisfaction in the NSS. The University has invested heavily over the past 10 years in its campus and infrastructure, including in up-to-date computer labs, a high-performance computing facility, a maker space environment and a gaming lab. Keele has a strong digital focus, with a new innovation centre (IC7) targeting digital industries, and a new Digital Society Institute focusing on the contributions of data science and analytics to society. The University is large enough to have high impact and profile, but small enough to sustain its commitment to community and individuals. The University is now seeking to appoint an inspirational leader as Head of School of Computer Science and Mathematics.

The School of Computer Science and Mathematics is currently in an exciting stage of development, extending its national and international reputation in research and teaching. The School has world leading strengths in solid and fluid mechanics, artificial intelligence and systems and software engineering, with increasing interests in cross-disciplinary areas including smart energy, digital society and smart transport. The School enjoys strong links with industrial partners and also with colleagues from other schools, in particular in the areas of machine learning and data science applications in Medicine and Life Sciences. The new Head will lead a school with circa 30 academic staff, and nearly 700 students, and will manage a budget of circa £6m. The new Head of School will be expected to further develop the research profile of the School and further enhance learning and teaching. The appointee will be a key member of the leadership team of the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
