Trustees, Y Care International

Y Care International (YCI) supports the most disadvantaged young people to achieve their aspirations by getting into work and out of poverty. Through partnerships with YMCAs worldwide we aim to create 1 million opportunities for decent work by 2030. Our vision is of a just world where every young person can transform their own and others' lives by earning a good living.

We are the YMCA's global lead in youth enterprise and employment. Through partnerships with YMCAs and other youth and community-based organisations, we equip some of the world's most disadvantaged young men and women aged 15-24 to move out of poverty and into business. We work in the heart of communities in 15 countries in some of the world's poorest communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

We believe that sustainable routes out of poverty lie with young people to help themselves through enterprise and employment. Our aim is to help by providing young people with vital capabilities, including:

·         The skills, resources and networks to enter the workforce or start their own business

·         The skills, knowledge and confidence to sustain their livelihoods through setbacks and disasters

·         The ability to strengthen their voice and influence local policy and practice

We are looking to recruit up to four trustees to our board of Trustees during 2019, with a specific emphasis on enhancing skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:

-          Development, including donor perspective

-          Enterprise & Employment with youth focus including policy, research

-          Public policy

-          Communications & marketing

-          Business development & fundraising

-          Charity Finance

Trustees commit around ten days a year and take part in formulating and regularly reviewing our strategy, ensuring that policy and practices are in keeping with our aims, and that we function within the legal and financial requirements of a charitable company.
